Mixed Media Canvas Heart




You will need:
Small canvas / mdf / cardboard heart  15 x 15cm
Docrafts Natures gallery decoupage birds, flowers and butterflies.
White gesso
Pink acrylic paint
Texture paste
Post card and flower stamps
Distressed paper
Old book pages
distress ink: scattered straw, pumice stone, blueprint sketch
Dark brown dye ink




 Cut a hole in the heart to hang it from when finished then cover front in white gesso.

 When gesso is dry paint front with a pink acrylic paint - I mixed red and white together to get the pink I wanted.  Leave a distressed look at the edges of the heart.


Distress a piece of paper 12.5 x 8 cm using distress inks.


Stamp using a postcard image and flowers / butterflies.


When the pink paint has dried use a stencil and texture paste to give a stone wall look.  I coloured white texture paste with the pumice stone distress ink.

 Cut out some swirls as shown from old book pages.

  Ink the edges with distress ink.
Roll up from the outside end of the swirl in to make some flowers

 Spray the heart with a brown glimmer mist and let dry.  Then glue on the postcard and build up the foliage to go behind the birds.
 Add the bird decoupage and flowers.
 Add the butterflies and string to finish.

Expecto patronum shadow box

December ATC swap

  December 23 ATC swap.  Theme Christmas Music / Songs.   No tutorial this month as forgot to take photos and these were quite simple to make.  Base of ATC cards (3.5" x 2.5") are cut from green card.   Cut some music paper from an old 6 x 6 vintage Christmas pad just slightly smaller than the ATC.   Distressed the edges and then went around the edges with distress ink before gluing onto the ATC.    Layered a thin hessian ribbon, green cheesecloth and a strip of red card across the ATC.   Die cut musical instruments from gold card and musical notes from black card.  Glued these on as shown.  Decorated with die cut Holly leaves, red snowflakes and pearl berries. Also made a mini shadow box card to show off one of the ATCs.
