Twist and pop card
Twist and Pop Card
Hunkydory
Paws for Thought
It is worth doing a practice card so you can get the folds and construction right before making a card with your best stash.
There are some great youtube clips showing how to make this card. There are several ways to make the pop and fold mechanism. I found this the easiest for me - but you may find another method suits you better. I adjusted the size of the pop and fold to accommodate the little cat panels from the hunkydory paws for thought cat and kittens luxury card kit.
These are my instructions and sizes:
Start with a 7" square card Matt both sides of the inside of the card with patterned paper.
To make the pop and fold mechanism cut two pieces of card 10" x 3.5". This works best with a lighter weight card. I used 150g. If the card is too heavy it does not seem to work as well.
Score one of the pieces at 2.5", 5" and 7.5" as shown.
Score the second piece longways down the center as shown.
Draw a line in pencil down the middle of the second piece of card at 5".
Mark either side of this pencil line at 1 3/4"on both the top and bottom f the card.
Score diagonally across the card as shown.
Once you have scored the card rub out the pencil markings.
Valley fold the long center score line and mountain fold the diagonal score lines as shown.
Fold the card to make a 'house' shape as shown.
Put a strong red tape on both sides of the triangle as shown.
Place the pop and fold mechanism in the card with the top point of the triangle at the middle of the fold down the center of the card. Remove the red tape from the top triangle and close the card down onto it to stick it down. Open the card and remove the tape from the other side and fold the card closed on this to stick it down.
Take your first piece of card and mountain fold the center score line and valley fold the score lines at either end.
Decorate the 4 panels you have made. Keep the decoration flat as the panels have to fold up neatly together.
Open out the card and put red tape on the the top half of end of one side and the bottom half of the opposite end as shown. The tape should should only cover an area 1 1/4" wide. The tape should only cover either the top outer quarter or the bottom outer quarter of the panels at each end of the decorated card.
Remove the red tape and stick the paneled piece of card down onto the card. I found it best to line up and stick down one side at a time with the outer card slightly folded and the panel piece concertina folded as shown.
Decorate the front of your card to match the inside panels.
The inside concertina panel should pop or fold out as the card opens and then fold back together as you close the card.
