Mermaid card with distress ink background
MERMAID CARD
The card is 8" x 4" as it was made for a challenge for a facebook group I am a member of. I would not normally make a card of this dimension - but it actually looks quite effective.
To make the card I used the following
Stamping card 8" x 3"
Black card 8" x 3 1/4 "
8 x 4" card blank
Distress inks: olive green, stormy sky and tumbled glass
Hunkydory for the love of stamps set with Mermaids.
Vegetation stamps that look like seaweed
Alcohol pens - I used promarkers.
Glycerine
Black versafine ink
Black momento ink
I used distress inks mixed with a tiny smidge of glycerine on a glass mat to create three bands of colour horizontally across the card. I chose colours that create an underwater effect. As you can see your application of colour does not have to be perfect! Mine were very blotchy and uneven - but sea water is dappled and multi coloured.
I then used a mask to create wave like patterns on the ink . With the mask placed down over the paper I spritzed water over it. I then placed kitchen roll over the mask to dry the water off it and the paper. The water lightens the colour of the ink to leave the pattern.
Once dry I used some of the seaweed stamps from the mermaid set and some foliage stamps to create a seascape. I stamped it using black versafine ink.
I backed the background paper onto black card to give a black border at the top and bottom.
On another sheet of stamping card I stamped out the mermaids, some sea creatures and an anchor in black momento ink. I then coloured the images in with promarkers and fussy cut them out.
Once cut out I placed the images on the background card. You can use the positioning of things to cover up bits that are not perfect. I ended up with a line down one of my backgrounds but covered this with a mermaid. When happy with your positioning glue the images down. If you want more depth you can use foam tape to stick them down.
These are my three cards. All slightly different. I hope you like the cards and this inspires you to try your own seascape.
